Berlin Butoh Circle

A 9-month training program divided into three 3-month terms for 8 committed participants in Berlin, guided by Coco Villarreal.

A selective group of people willing to grow, go deep, and evolve their own Butoh practice through collective training and performances.

The Berlin Butoh Circle is closed and small, so each member can be supported and nourished personally by Coco Villarreal, an experienced international Butoh dancer and teacher with more than 20 years in the field.

The first term begins on September 14th and concludes with a collective performance in a theater venue or public space in Berlin. Participants are expected to commit to the full three months of each term, while priority is given to those who wish to take part in the entire nine-month journey. If places become available, new participants may join at the beginning of a new term.

First Term: “The Cave”

September 14 – December 4.

Structure

Two sessions per week (3 hours each)
Tuesdays and Fridays, 17:00–20:00

• Tuesday sessions focus on physical training, proprioception, technical work, physical vocabulary, and voice.
• Friday sessions are dedicated to deep somatic explorations and artistic research.

In addition, each participant receives one 2-hour private session per term with Coco for individual feedback and guidance.

Coco’s approach to Butoh is not based on levels or a linear progression. Anyone who feels the call is welcome to apply, regardless of previous experience.

The Circle will perform in theaters and unconventional spaces.
Butoh is not limited to the stage. Flash mobs and interventions across Berlin are part of the vision.

Price

Sliding scale €140–220 per month, paid in monthly installments.
A special rate is available for participants who register for the full nine-month program.
